“It looks like it’s from another planet, and a good planet. A planet with better designers.”
-Apple co-founder Steve Jobs, describing the iMac upon its debut in 1998
Thank you for visiting carolineswartz.wordpress.com. This privacy policy tells you all about the legal mumbo jumbo that goes along with using a website. If, while looking at my site, you start having recurring dreams featuring zebras, please tell someone. I'm not sure how privacy policies get so long, but now we're just trying to fill space with meaningless meanderings. I guess we'll just say to try and do at least one nice thing each day. Don't road rage or text while driving. Add an extra quarter-cup of chocolate chips next time you make chocolate chip cookies. Dig a random hole in the ground. Wear a pair of socks for a week straight. Buy an iPhone, take it apart and see if you can put it back together. Eat just one potato chip. Sleep for 12 hours tonight. Pet someone on their tummy. Order new carpeting. Write a screenplay about the Dalai Lama winning an international dodge ball tourney, starring Frank Pacheco. Devote the next 3 weeks to trying to join the super group Journey. Lick your ring fingers. Forget all that stuff you can't remember. Ease off on the uptake. Rotate left every 6 minutes. Slim down. Fatten up. Urge a major reversal. Take up the slack and put it back down. Ba-donka-donk. Test the boundaries of your neighbors. Reach another conclusion. Eat a cat – a chocolate one. It's more than a feeling. Say hello to that annoying kid down the street. Push on through and rewrite the book on solving crime. Please enjoy my site and leave a comment!

That’s how much the Transportation Security Administration has spent on air travel since its post-9/11 debut. But who’s getting the money? And is it really paying off?
Check out this article on Fast Company by Emma Hank that calls out some of the specifics and how the (OUR) money is being spent.

But do we really need all of these?
Is there a time when an info graphic really is not necessary? Are designers trying to over-complicate the subject by putting in more details?
My personal philosophy on the subject is that the info graphic is and should be reserved for simplifying a subject, not complicating. An “average Joe” should be able to understand the subject and its nuances based off of the info graphic in a simple manner that would have been impossible in the information’s previous form.

Not that it is a large revelation that MAC & PC users view their technology differently, but also many other items as well.
This is an info graphic that helps to point out those differences.

Whenever I’m feeling lazy, or needing a little bit of inspiration I think of Mike Ells, the CEO of Chipotle. Check out this video, it proves that he once was a “normal” person.

I have been told many times that I am a “Type A” kind of person. What exactly does that mean?
This recent NPR article takes the cake in regards to “Type A”, and integrating that into the design world. Enjoy!

I’m a believer in starting off the day right. Whether it be a strong cup of coffee or a relaxing cup of tea, one of them is a necessity. Well, when I was pregnant with my daughter I developed the evil habit of needing to eat something right away in the morning. So that’s when my cup of coffee in the morning started to be accompanied by a tasty treat. Well, now I have found the perfect cup for me to hide my tasty treat from my now 3 year-old daughter. I know that sounds bad, but the girl always steals my cookies. Not any more, I have found the best mug ever!
This awesome mug could be yours by visiting an awesome ceramics artist that I found on Etsy.com

Starbucks unveiled their redesigned logo that will make its way to stores this spring. A more streamlined, minimalistic logo will make an appearance on coffee cups soon. The Siren is the focus of the new design. She is larger and the only design element of the new logo that is missing the words “Starbucks Coffee”.
In the hours since its unveiling this morning, it has been greeted with mixed emotion. So much that consumers (design critics) everywhere are comparing it to the defunct GAP logo that was unveiled last year…then quickly scrapped.

I wish we could have one of these on each of the computers in the lab when I’m teaching Photoshop. My students rarely realize the power and ease of shortcuts.

You can find the Keyboard Shortcut Skins for Macs at the Photojojo Store!

There are those that doubt the power of the camera that can fit in your pocket. I agree that my iPhone is not exactly the “best” camera, but in the words of Chase Jarvis, “the best camera is the one that is with you.” Well if you care to take your iPhone camera to the next level, I dare you to add one of these to your phone…
